As we have both explored parts of Vienna before, we decided to visit the film festival area set up near the city hall with sound of some nice background music. We lied down on the benches in front of the city hall (Rathaus) and look at the sky, watching how clouds were moving and fading away.

On the walk to a nearby church (Vortivkirche) we found out that some of the traffic light in Vienna have butterflies on the people silhouettes when it is a red light, and heart shapes on the silhouettes when it is a green light.

Then we found a pleasant café named Demel in the centre of Vienna. This cafe serves some very delicious cold chocolate during hot summer. The taste is not too sweet so it is not overwhelming the cocoa taste.

It is here that we decided to start writing the first blog post of what we hope will be many all because of the great time we had the day before.

We took the morning train from Vienna to Bratislava however due to unexpected events we ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere awaiting a bus connection. Surprisingly we had a great time (given the context). We walked to a nearby corn field, we met a local cat, and spent 5 minutes watching what appeared to be a group of insects mating while talking about our recent adventures.

We eventually arrived in Bratislava and got off the bus at the city’s main train station Hlavná Stanica. The train station was quite old and in communist style, it was like time travelling to the 1960s, very interesting. We walked into the city centre with only one thing on our mind… food! We went to UFO bridge, a futuristic brutalist bridge to eat food in the observation deck. The food was great even though the portion is a bit small. You could also see the view while using the bathroom!

After eating our super small portion of food but feeling good, we walked along the waterfront and to the blue church.

Then when we are walking towards the city center, we passed through a street where there were a crowd, so we went further and found 2 men play giant outdoor chess against each other. It was so interesting to watch how they were thinking deeply and the audience was just in silence waiting for their moves.

Also, if you are not having a good day or going to the casino, you have to find this statue with a man hiding in a drain hole and touch his head because it is said that touching his head brings good luck. ;)

Throughout the trip we had a lot of fun and while exploring the castle in the fading evening light, we had a particular nice moment overlooking the city and UFO bridge.

With little time left until our 22:38 train, we dashed to the train station with Tricia still needing to write her postcards! Ultimately with 2 minutes to go until the train we ran to the postbox and then to the train. And we made it!!
